Project description:

The modernisation works for Parkhill Primary School consist of a new building, building refurbishment works, and building renovation works to Roger Beech Hall, as well as upgrades to the adjacent outdoor ground cover areas and car parking. It provides exciting opportunities for modern teaching and learning to support the STEM and PE programs and improve functionality and amenities for school assemblies, performing arts, the Out of School Hours care program and use by hiring groups. In addition, the design improves safety and circulation throughout the campus and enhances the sense of address to the main street along Parkhill Drive.

Role description:

Madina joined the team during the defects liability period of the Parkhill Primary School project, encountering challenges stemming from a problematic builder. The project faced numerous defects, notably with the entire sports flooring requiring reinstallation due to the builder's failure to provide adequate clearance and ventilation beneath the subfloor, resulting in moisture damage. Madina meticulously examined the construction contract to ensure the builder rectified the defect, despite attempts to shift blame onto the architect and mechanical engineer. This intervention was crucial in upholding the project's integrity and the interests of the client, VSBA, which subsequently blacklisted the builder from future tenders. However, before transitioning to the next clause of the contract, the builder executed the final architect's instruction, necessitating the removal of the old floor, construction according to drawings, and installation of a new floor, significantly impacting the school's program schedule. Throughout this challenging period, Madina demonstrated diligence, expertise, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring the project's success and the satisfaction of all stakeholders involved.
